Trip to Royal Wootton Bassette Academy , UK

Mrs. NiveditaKoka( Headmistress) and me,MrsShailja Sharma ( Mathematics Teacher) went for an Educational Collaboration to Royal WoottonBassette Academy, United Kingdom from April 22, 2019 to April 30, 2019.

The trip to United Kingdom began in the wee hours of morning with the flight to Abu Dhabi and then London. It seemed as if time flew and we were at the Heathrow airport where Ms. Melissa Cassedy, the International Coordinator of Royal WoottonBassette Academy was waiting for us. The journey by car driven by Ms. Cassedy to Wiltshirewas mesmerizing. The beautiful and symmetric architecture of the British, the lush green landscapes and the weather seemed to take away the tiredness of the long journey. Ms. Cassedy dropped us at our Airbnb apartment in Wiltshire. Ms. Cassedy was so thoughtful to carry the stuff for our breakfast for the next morning as it was too late to buy stuff from the market. Truly, it seemed to be a home away from home.

The next day, we were taken to school by Ms. Cassedy, where our first meeting was with the Head Teacher Mr. GeogreCroxford. We discussed about education system in the two partner schools. We got the chance to be a part of various classes in Religious studies( year 10) , Mathematics( year 7, 10 and 6th form) and Geography( year 7).

In Geography class of year 7, we conducted various activities under the collaborated project FOOD HEROES. Students of year 7 of RWBA were shown some videos to make them aware of one of the Sustainable Development Goals. They were shown videos on Zero Hunger and were asked to make posters on “ What’s on my plate”. A survey was also conducted to know about the food habits and wastage of food by the students. They were made to write a pledge on How to become a food hero.

All these activities were a part of action plan which is taken up as a collaborated project by the two schools. We also got the opportunity to attend one outstanding teacher training programme by an expert trainer Mr. Olevi .
Visit to London with Ms. Cassedy was really awesome. Ride oncoco- cola London eye and view of Londonfrom it , sight of Buckingham Palace was amazing. To come face to face with world’s famous personalities and to know history of London at Madame Tussaudswas out of the world and really mesmerizing.
Walking on the roads of Bath and the site of Bath from the river, the church of bath was great . All thanks to Mr. Tim( teacher of religious studies at RWBA) for taking us to Bath.
Listening to amazing films and photo graphs, moving personal stories, memories of Bristol through the interactive displays from pre historic times to the present day at M Shed , a museum at Bristol gave us an insight into Bristol.
During our visit to UK, we also got a chance to meet one of student’s family in Swindon. They invited us on lunch and took us to a tour of Swindon.
We learnt the British Educational system which highlights on goal oriented, theme based curriculum, experiential and student-led, activity based learning. We learnt about the independent culture of Britain and its effective role in personality development and which aims at meeting year-end goals which have an important role in holistic development of an individual. We hardly realized that in the busy schedule our journey had come and it was time to bid goodbye to England. We left with memories and strong ties to be cherished for a life time with promises to keep the friendship continued.
