This summer I was given a wonderful opportunity to be a part of an internship conducted by Expressions India along with The Institute of Mental Health & Life Skills Promotion, Moolchand Medcity, New Delhi. The internship was attended by 11 students. Out of these, 6 students belonged to class 11 and and 4 students belonged to class 12.The internship focused on explaining clinical and counselling psychology with real life examples.
We were taught about the various psychological disorders like ADHD( Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ), ODD( Oppositional Defiant Disorder ), and CD( Conduct Disorder ). The internship also focused on other topics like Basic Case History Taking and Mental Status Examination. We were guided by professional and experienced psychologists. We were taught about the patient – clinician relationship and how it affects the evaluation of the disorder.
I learnt a lot of new things and also how l can help others using that knowledge. The internship has immensely helped me to understand why people act in a certain way, how they respond to the world around them and which key factors might affect their interaction with the environment. The internship also helped me to gain a deeper understanding of my own self, factors which motivate me what sort of a personality I have and how my personality contributes to the way l think and behave.
Understanding myself will surely help me to improve my relationships with others, my communication skills, my motivation, and how I will relate to the world around me.
I would like to thank our psychology teacher Ms. Pooja Bhatia who has been forever dedicated in helping us grow better as individuals. I cannot express enough gratitude to our Principal Ms. Surjeet Khanna for giving us this amazing opportunity to learn. Our senior academic coordinator Ms. Mamta Gupta has always been a pillar of support especially in providing us this opportunity. I look forward to attending more of these internships.
