“Share your smile with the world. It’s a symbol of friendship and peace.”– Christie Brinkley
After a long time of silent corridors and empty classrooms, it was a delight to welcome our Dipsites of classes I and II back to Delhi Public School, Greater Faridabad on Monday, 25th November 2021. We celebrated this day as ‘Happy Smiles Day’ for all students of Class I and II. It was a leap of freedom for children, who were cooped up at home for more than a year. Both teachers and students were happy to be back at the school, a start that seemed more overwhelming than ever before. Our aim for the first day was to normalize the school day, have students reacclimatize to the building, and re-engage positive connections with other students and staff, all of which are essential for successful learning and growth moving forwards.
The day was power-packed with multiple fun-filled activities such as wearing a Smiley Badge, Chair Zumba, Ice breaker game and Joyful toy-making activity. Being happy in Covid times – focus on safety norms, the importance of handwashing, sanitization, social distancing etc and a happy guided tour of the school campus were organized to teach them the value of being happy and spreading happiness. The school’s reentry celebration was aimed at creating an arena where children could process emotions, re-discover interpersonal connections, and develop an awareness of effective coping strategies.
This coming back of students was a memorable experience, despite the masks, cohorts, handwashing, directional flow in the corridors, and physical distancing. It was quite wonderful to see shining eyes peeking over the top of masks, as students arrived ready for a new and bright beginning. The students felt safe, cared for and super excited.
