Delhi Public School, Greater Faridabad organized an industrial visit to the CSIR Institute of Genomics and integrative biology for all the medical students of classes XI and XII on 4th May 2023. The main objective of the trip was to introduce the students to the technologically advanced areas of genomics, biotechnology, and molecular medicine with the help of interesting activities and displays about DNA sequencing, analysis, and interpretation of genomic data. The students were divided into a group of two and were guided by the departmental staff. Dipsites came across through an experiment involving the making of DNA from human saliva. The teacher was able to make them understand the process behind the experiment efficiently. Further, they witnessed the chromatography of DNA and different mitotic phases of the cell. The third activity was connected with the epistemology of Zebra fish being used for research purposes and testing of drugs or vaccines as it had similarities with human DNA. They also got acquainted with the Differences between electron and compound microscopes along with their working. The most interesting of all was to know about the principle of atomic force microscopy which can be used to distinguish between normal and cancerous cells. It was indeed an insightful excursion.
